Its the law of the fair

It was the fated hour. The auspicious rain dampened the ground as I frantically worried about my next move. My hands were trembling at every breath of the night, and my feet were rooted in the ground as if impaled by steel. At the mere sight if her, I felt fear and excitement as if jumping to a trapeze. I couldn't even think of how'd I manage to get my feelings across when I finally approach her. I immediately turned my head down as I saw a glimpse of her face.

*bump*

"watch it, kid!"

I'm stuck in the middle of the fair. Standing still at the eyes of the normals and the occasional passerby. Paralyzed by fear, I regret even doing the houdinie when I went in with my friends. Several thoughts swirled around my head as I frantically searched for her, like:"what'd happen if I don't find her here?" and "what the heck would I even say?".

" *That's...Marguerite...! * "

There she was. That average height, slightly lower than mine, and that unusual feel when you look at her eyes. I was certain it was her. She seemed to be enjoying her time.

I never even thought how I'd cross the sea of people just enjoying their time. So, I decided to take a few more baby steps, finally mustering the courage to do everything as planned, no matter how reckless it was.

*bump* *bump*

"Wha...wha...what....?"

The gentle trickles of the rain felt colder as it rolled down my cheeks. I clenched my fist as I stared at the picture before me.

"...ah"

Mixed emotions clouded my head, like it was with the night sky. I was left speechless, and yet somewhat glad to see that she's happy.

Maybe it's like when I drink my cup of joe. It tastes so bitter to me, and that's why I try and put sugar in it to make it sweet enough to overwrite that particular taste.

" *Was I too late...?* "

I slowly backed away. I managed to avoid bumping into anyone else this time. The only thing in my mind as I traversed the muddy path was

...maybe next time
